Utah Valley Golf Finishes Third at WAC Men’s Golf Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kansas—The Utah Valley University men's golf team finished third at the 2018 WAC Men's Golf Championship after shooting a three-round score of 43-over-par 883 (283-295-305) at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Wolverines shot a final-round 25-over-par 305 on Wednesday in cold and rainy conditions.
Missouri Kansas City won the championship with a three-day total of 25-over-par 865 (284-287-294) Grand Canyon finished second at 29-over-par 869 (286-289-294), while Utah Valley placed third at 43-over-par 883. The Wolverines finished ahead of New Mexico State (+44), UT Rio Grande Valley (+47), Seattle U (+49), and Chicago State (+116).
Blair Bursey tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 10-over-par 220 (73-72-75). The senior carded a final-round 5-over-par 70 in Wednesday's final round as he tallied one birdie and 12 pars in difficult conditions. The 10th place finish is Bursey's fourth top-10 finish of the season.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson shot a final-round score of 6-over-par 76 to finish 13th at the tournament with a three-day total of 11-over-par 221 (71-74-76). The senior recorded two birdies and nine pars on the day.
Freshman Aaron Yeates tied for the 15th spot on the leaderboard after carding a 54-hole score of 13-over-par 223 (67-75-81). Yeates carded a final-round 11-over-par 81 on Wednesday. Jake Godfrey recorded a 7-over-par 77 in Wednesday's final round and finished 19th with a three-round score of 15-over-par 225 (72-76-77).
Gabe Lysen carded a 7-over-par 77 in the final round and tied for the 26th spot with a three-day total of 20-over-par 230 (79-74-77).
The tournament wraps up the 2017-18 season for the Wolverines. The team will return to the course this fall.
