November Volunteer Spotlight - Steve Meyer

By: Tanner Clegg, PJ Boatwright Intern

Each month, the UGA spotlights one of our devoted volunteers to express our deep appreciation for all they do and to help you, our loyal members, become well acquainted with them. The month of November features one of the UGA’s Course Rating Volunteers, Steve Meyer.

Steve Meyer was born in Ogden, UT and grew up in Weber and Davis Counties. Steve’s interest in golf grew while working as a caddie at Ogden Golf & Country Club mostly shagging balls for Ernie Schneider Sr. Steve made his first hole-in-one on his 23rd birthday at Davis Park Golf Course and has been playing golf for over 55 years.

Steve has been married to his wife, Susan, for 40 years. They have four sons and 13 grandkids. Steve has an MBA from the University of Utah and made his career in the telecommunication industry. He worked for US West in the sales department for 30 years before retiring. Afterword’s, he started his own telecommunication company Priority Telecom.

Steve got his start on the course rating team thanks to an invite from Jim Mitchell and Dennis Wood. He has been serving on the team for the past 12 years.

In his spare time when not golfing, Steve enjoys riding side-by-sides, fishing, and traveling. He likes rating golf courses and volunteering for other UGA activities when time permits.

The Utah Golf Association thanks its volunteers for sacrificing their time and energy to help the UGA fulfill its mission to promote interest in the game of golf by encouraging, organizing, supporting, sponsoring and administering golfing activities and programs.
