UVU Women’s Golf’s Lauer ties for seventh at SCU Colby Invite

SAN JOSE, Calif. – True freshman Justine Lauer led the way for the Utah Valley University women's golf team at the SCU Colby Invitational by tying for seventh place with a three-round total of 14-over-par 230.
 
Lauer led the Wolverines, at their final tournament of the fall season, by carding scores of 80, 75 and 75 en route to tying for seventh place on the individual leaderboard. The Fourqueux, France, native also recorded a team-best six birdies and 35 pars on the way to recording the first top-10 finish of her collegiate career.
 
“Justine capped off a great event by carding another 75 today. She showed a tremendous amount grit by leading the way for her team at the tournament as a true freshman,” head UVU coach Dr. Sue Nyhus said. “Overall I was proud of the team's effort and we're looking forward to fine-tuning our game over the winter months.”
 
Sophomore Ana Raga was next for the Wolverines by posting a 14th-place finish with a 19-over 235. Raga carded scores of 76, 79 and 80 at the two-day, 54-hole event. Fellow sophomore Carly Dehlin finished two shots back of Raga to place 19th overall with a 21-over 236 (80-79-78) while senior Kimberly Nyhus tied for 24th with a 245 (86-79-81).
 
As a team, the Wolverines finished in fifth place out of seven teams with an 83-over 947 (315-320-312). The host Santa Clara Broncos won the event with a 52-over 916 (309-297-310) while CSUN placed second (311-301-306—918) and Montana State third (310-313-312—935). In-state foe Weber State finished two strokes ahead of the Wolverines to claim fourth place (319-306-320—945) and IUPUI (324-324-315—963) and CSU Bakersfield (321-333-329—983) rounded out the tournament in sixth and seventh places, respectively.
 
CSUN's Chomchana Phuchanbanchob took home individual medalist honors at 7-over-par (74-73-76—223).
 
Fellow Wolverines Monica Yeates (87-80-82—249), Kaylee Shimizu (84-85-85—254) and Isabella Lesa(89-89-86—264) too took part in the tournament and placed 29th, 34th and 41st, respectively.
 
UVU's final tournament of the fall campaign was contested at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, California.
 
The Wolverines will now take the winter months off before returning to the links on March 4-5 at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona.
