UVU Mgolf: Utah Valley finishes ninth at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University men's golf team moved up one spot on the team leaderboard to finish ninth in the 14-team field at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday after shooting a three-round score of 25-over-par 877 at University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The Wolverines shot their best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding a 3-over-par 287. UVU finished with a three-round score of 25-over-par 877 (297-293-287) to finish ninth ahead of Oral Roberts (882), Incarnate Word (890), UT Rio Grande Valley (894), Western New Mexico (903) and Western Illinois (903). Grand Canyon won the team title at 15-under-par 837 (277-280-280).
“We played much better today,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “The guys executed the game plan and limited the mistakes. It's just frustrating that we got off to such a poor start.”
Blair Bursey led the team with a three-round score of 5-over-par 218 (72-76-70) to finish in a tie for 24th. The junior shot his lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under-par 70 with three birdies and 13 pars to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard.
JT Timmons (75-74-71) and Ariel Elftman-Hanson (78-71-71) each moved up eight spots on the individual leaderboard to finish in a tie for 33rd at 7-over-par 220. Both golfers carded an even par 71 in Tuesday's final round.
Dalton Jackson shot a final round 8-over-par 79 to finish in a tie for 56th with a three-round score of 13-over-par 226 (72-75-79). Payton Stott rounded out the scoring with a final round score of 4-over-par 75. The freshman finished the tournament in a tie for 66th with a three-round score of 15-over-par 228 (80-73-75).
Utah Valley now heads to Hawaii to wrap up its fall season slate. The Wolverines will compete in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, Oct. 29-Nov. 1 at the Princeville Makai Golf Club on the island of Kauai.
