By Megan Terry

After a long day of both quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, six of Utah golf’s most talented and competitive seniors will face off on Thursday in hopes of claiming the 2016 Utah Senior Match Play Championship, Super Senior, and Net Division titles. Thursday will feature the following matches at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course:

In the Championship Flight, Dana Nelson and Ron Davis will go head-to-head in an attempt to seize the Championship Division title. Nelson defeated Richard Parkinson 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals and 2015 Utah Senior Match Play Champion Craig Wilson 3 and 1 in the semifinal match. Davis defeated Guy Child 5 and 4 in the quarters and William Pizza 2 and 1 in the semis.

Doug Marriott and current UGA President Steven Brinton are the last men standing in the Super Senior Division. Marriott ran away with a 7 and 5 win in the quarterfinals against Vern Erickson and defeated Val Calhoon 3 and 1 in the semifinal round, while Brinton overcame Jay Ervine 6 and 5 in the quarters and closed a tight race with Ruben Escobedo 2 and 1 in the semifinal match.

The final match in the Net Division will include contestants Mark Howard and Dean Bond. Howard defeated Kevin Wall in the quarterfinal match 5 and 4 and Tracy Smith in the semifinal match 2 and 1. Bond and Bret Hancock went neck and neck in the quarterfinal match until Bond finally closed out the match 1 up. Bond defeated Richard Dibblee 2 and 1 in the semifinal match to advance to the final stage of match play.
