Utah Golf Foundation Opens Registration for Veterans Events

By Megan Terry, Programs Administrator

The Utah Golf Foundation (UGF), the charitable affiliate of the Utah Golf Association, opened registration for its first two 2017 Veterans on Course events. VOC, a program open to veterans of all ages and skill levels, was started by the UGF as a pilot program to provide instruction and playing opportunities to veterans free of charge. Each event consists of lessons from PGA Professionals, a nine-hole shotgun scramble tournament, and a social gathering with hors d’oevres and a guest speaker.

*Proof of active or veteran status is required at all Veterans on Course events in the form of a military ID, driver’s license with military status, or Department of Defense Form 214.

2017 Kickoff at the PGA Superstore

Join the UGF in kicking off the season on Thursday, March 2nd at the PGA Superstore (10355 State Street, Sandy, UT 84070) from 5-7:30 p.m. Receive information about the Utah Golf Foundation and upcoming Veterans on Course events. Chick-fil-A will be catered and a 15% discount on the entire store (not including Titleist and Ping) will be offered to all veterans. Putting contests and longest drive contests in the simulators will be available for participation.

Veterans on Course at Rose Park

Rose Park Golf Course (1386 North Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84116) will be hosting the first on-course VOC event of 2017 on Thursday, April 13th. The check-in table will be available from 1:45-2:30 p.m.

For those of you who need golf equipment, the Vets Club Depot will be available from 12:45-1:45 p.m. The First Tee of Utah has joined in helping the Veterans on Course program by offering donated golf clubs, balls, and bags to veterans just getting started in the game.

The event will begin at 2:45 p.m. with lessons from PGA Professionals who will cover the basics of a full golf swing, chipping, and putting. Veterans will rotate among the three stations every 20 minutes until the nine-hole shotgun start at 4 p.m.
