Governor’s Cup

A long-standing tradition in Utah Golf, the amateurs and the professionals duel each year for the right to have their name etched on the Governor’s Cup.

What is the Governor’s Cup?

The UGA and the Utah PGA each season participate in the Governor’s Cup which is a Ryder Cup style format event pitting top amateurs versus the top professionals in Utah. Each team is comprised of the twelve at large members and four senior members. The event consists of morning foursomes matches followed by afternoon four ball matches and singles matches run concurrently.


UGA Selection Process

Each team member must agree to participate in all functions relating to the Governor’s Cup Matches. Participants who qualify as minors will be asked to complete and return waiver information to the UGA.

PPR

  • 1 – Current Utah State Amateur Champion
  • 2 – Current Utah Mid-Amateur Champion
  • 3 – First eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 4 – Second eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 5 – Third eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 6 – Fourth eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 7 – Fifth eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 8 – Sixth eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 9 – Seventh eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 10 – Eight eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 11 – Ninth eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur
  • 12 – Tenth eligible on PPR Rankings after the Utah Mid-Amateur

SPPR

  • 1 – Current Senior State Amateur Champion
  • 2 – First eligible on SPPR Rankings after the Utah Senior Open
  • 3 – Second eligible on SPPR Rankings after the Utah Senior Open
  • 4 – Third eligible on SPPR Rankings after the Utah Senior Open


Conditions of Competition:

  • The UGA hard card is in effect
  • In the event of a tie, a hole-by-hole playoff will be conducted. The first hole will be played as foursomes, the second will be four-ball and any subsequent holes will be singles. Each team will pick the players for the playoff.

Overall the Utah Section PGA has won 23 times and the Utah Golf Association has won 8 times. There have been two ties in the event’s history.
