Second UGF Veterans on Course Event at River Oaks Is a Hit
By Megan Terry
The Utah Golf Foundation’s Veterans on Course program has turned out to be a hit. The list of participants fills up faster each month. In fact, due to an increase in demand following the inaugural event at Davis Park, ten spots were added to the River Oaks and Hobble Creek events.
The River Oaks event included a full field, and a few veterans showed up unexpectedly after hearing about the program from their veteran friends. Many returned after their first VOC experience at Davis Park and even asked to be paired with the same veterans they played with at Davis.
“It feels really good to be around a group of veterans from all of the different services,” said retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Earl Seely. “There’s a bond that all veterans feel when they get together as a group. Veterans on Course allows us to spend quality time together and reminisce about the past.”
Men and women of all military branches and ranks received lessons from six volunteer PGA professionals, played nine holes of golf, and listened to past UGA President and Air Force Staff Sergeant Jim Harland speak during a social gathering.
The First Tee of Utah Executive Director Paul Pugmire was present with the Vets Club Depot, a free program offering donated golf clubs, balls, and bags to veterans just getting started in the game. The Vets Club Depot is at The First Tee of Utah’s office location (680 West 3300 South Salt Lake City, Utah 84119) and will be present at every Veterans on Course event.
The 2016 Veterans on Course season includes one more event in Southern Utah at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club sometime in November. More information will be posted to utahgolffoundation.org, on all UGA and Utah Golf Foundation social media platforms, and emailed to all past participants once a date is set. Spots will be limited to 60. Veterans, the Utah Golf Foundation thanks you for the sacrifices you have made to serve our country. Your acts of selflessness and bravery do not go unnoticed, and we appreciate the opportunity to serve you in return.
