UVU Finishes Strong to Place 9th at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz.—The Utah Valley University men's golf team moved up three spots on the leaderboard on Monday to finish ninth in the 16-team field at the Loyola Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club in Arizona.
 
The Wolverines shot a final-round 4-under-par 284 to finish ninth with a three-round score of 3-over-par 867 (289-294-284). UVU finished ahead of St. Johns (+5), SIU Edwardsville (+7), Loyola (+7), DePaul (+9), Drake (+20) and Murray State (+26). Connecticut won the tournament with an impressive score of 30-under-par 834. Eastern Michigan (-23) finished second followed by Elon (-17) in third.

“It felt good to finally put together a good round and move up the leaderboard,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “Ariel has been impressive this spring, he's shot under par in every round. We still have work to do but was nice to take a step in a positive direction today.”
 
Junior UVU golfer Ariel Elftman-Hanson carded a 1-under-par 71 in Monday's final round to finish in a tie for 21st in the 96-player field with a three-day score of 3-under-par 213 (71-71-71). Elftman-Hanson recorded five birdies in Monday's round, including four on the front nine.
 
Blair Bursey registered his lowest round of the tournament on Monday, carding a 2-under-par 70. Bursey finished in a tie for 30th with a three-round score of 1-under-par 215 (72-73-70). JT Timmons carded a 2-over-par 74 on Monday to finish tied for the 45th spot at 2-over-par 218 (68-76-74).
 
Gabe Lysen shot his best round of the tournament on Monday with a 1-over-par 73. The freshman tied for 81st at 10-over-par 226 (78-75-73). Payton Stott also recorded his best round on Monday, carding a 2-under-par 70. Stott tied for the 92nd spot on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 16-over-par 232 (87-75-70).
 
Utah Valley will continue its spring tour on March 12 when the team travels to Bandon, Oregon to participate in the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Bandon Dunes resort.
