About us
The Utah Golf Association is a 501(c)(7) not-for-profit organization and the governing body for amateur golf in Utah. We’re dedicated to growing the game of golf by providing inclusive opportunities to play, serve, and compete through membership.
Building a stronger golf community in Utah
Our mission is to promote and advance the game of golf by providing members with meaningful benefits, supporting programs across the state, and conducting championships.
We are committed to expanding interest in the game by encouraging, organizing, supporting, sponsoring, and administering golfing activities and programs without regard to race, color, or creed — and by fostering education and goodwill that further the game.
Our history
The Utah Golf Association was informally organized during the early years of Utah golf, and during the first half century its only role was to conduct the Utah State Amateur Championship.
The UGA was officially incorporated in 1966. Since that time, the Association has grown from solely conducting championships to conducting course ratings, instructing rules and handicap seminars, and supporting the United States Golf Association at the local level including maintaining and administrating the handicap system.
Throughout the years, many individuals have competed and contributed to the development of the UGA and the preservation of Utah golf. Steve Dunford played the most significant role during the 1950s and ‘60s and served as president of the UGA for 14 years. After the official incorporation in 1966, Ray Dubois became the first president of the newly incorporated UGA. Others involved in the original organization included George Marks — who served as the executive secretary and executive director from 1969 to 1982 — as well as Alan Bader, Glen Lewis, and Bill Schultz.
Moving forward, the UGA continues to build on this legacy through new membership programs designed for all types of golfers, from competitive players to those who enjoy the game casually.
Utah Golf Association Awards
The UGA recognizes players, volunteers, and outstanding individuals in the Utah golf community with awards to celebrate their accomplishments and dedication to the game.
Utah Golf Foundation
The Utah Golf Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was established in 1989 as the tax-exempt charitable affiliate of the Utah Golf Association. It is the only statewide charitable foundation in Utah devoted solely to the game of golf.
In 2014, the Utah Golf Foundation reestablished itself as an independent entity and refocused its mission on expanding access to golf and supporting programs and organizations that grow the game.
Our leadership
The Utah Golf Association is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and a professional executive staff dedicated to growing and protecting amateur golf throughout Utah.
Leadership focuses on championship administration, player development, handicapping services, course relationships, and expanding access to the game.
