UGA Competitive Fairness Gender Policy

Effective March 17, 2025

The UGA is an allied golf association of the USGA. In regards to policies involving gender, the UGA follows the USGA’s Competitive Fairness Gender Policy. The information below supplements the policy for UGA Competitions.

UGA Competitions include all competitions that the UGA conducts, not limited to; Championships, Qualifiers for Championships, Team Play Events, Traveling Team Events and any other competitions conducted by the UGA.

Definitions of UGA Competitions and Divisions

Women’s Events and Women’s Divisions – When UGA Competitions have eligibility requirements that refer to Women or Female, it shall mean any person who is not a Transgender Athlete and who is assigned female at birth, regardless of their gender identity. In addition, any Transgender Athlete may compete in a Women’s Event, subject to satisfying any applicable eligibility criteria outlined in the Competitive Fairness Gender Policy. 

Open Events – All UGA Competitions, not specifically designated as a Women’s Event or a Women’s Division, are open to Men and Women athletes, including any division that is specifically referred to as a “Men’s Division”.

Modifications to the USGA’s Competitive Fairness Gender Policy for UGA Competitions are as follows:

  • Any place in the Policy where the term “USGA” is used, the term “UGA” shall be replaced.
  • Any place in the Policy where the term “Championship” is used, the term “all UGA competitions” shall be replaced.
  • Any place in the Policy where the term “USGA Team” is used, the term “UGA Team” shall be replaced.
  • Any place in the Policy where the term “USGA Championship Administration Senior Director” is used, the term “UGA Executive Director” shall be replaced.
  • Section 1. Purpose – This Policy applies to all UGA Competitions.
  • Anti-Doping Policies – Do not apply if not in connection with an athlete’s gender-affirming care. In the case of an athlete’s gender-affirming care, the USGA’s Anti-Doping Policy is in effect for UGA considerations.
  • Section 6. Application Process – For 2025 only, any Transgender Athlete wishing to compete in the UGA Spring Open, the Utah Women’s Four-ball, and the UGA Utah Girls’ Junior State Amateur must notify the Executive Director by March 24th of their intent to compete.  For the UGA Spring Open and the Utah Women’s Four-Ball, applications must be submitted to the Executive Director by March 31st.  For the UGA Utah Girls’ Junior State Amateur, the deadline to apply will remain as sixty (60) days prior to the close of entries.  All other UGA competitions are subject to the deadlines listed in the policy.
  • Section 19. Arbitration – The place of arbitration shall be Utah and this Policy shall be governed by the laws of Utah without giving effect to the conflict of laws principles thereof.
