Field Set for 30th Utah Senior State Amateur Championship

Competitors are ready to take on Alpine CC after the fourth and final qualifier wrapped up this afternoon at Timpanogos GC.

Qualifying started at Glendale GC on August 7th, 2023. Taking home medalist honors in the Senior Division was Tommy Johnson (-5) and Jeremy Edwards (-5) with impressive rounds of 67. The cut came at +1 (73) with 15 players moving on. Alan Hamilton and Steven Miles lead the way in the Super Senior Division as they both posted rounds of +2 (74) with the cut coming at +3 and a total of 4 players moving on. Finally, in the Legends Division Steven Smith and Kurt Bernhiesel carded rounds of +1 (73) with the cut being +2 and a total of 3 players qualifying.

At the Lakeside GC qualifier Thomas Kuehls fired a (-1) 71 to take medalist honors in the Senior Division with the cut at +3 and 11 players qualifying. In the Super Senior Division, Dana Nelson and Corey Ford shot (-2) 69 to lead the way. The cut came at +2 with six players advancing. Lastly, Stan Nakano carded a (+2) 74 and medalist honors in the Legends Division. Five players moved on and the cut came at +7.

Andrew Yeh was the only player in the field to card a round under par as he fired a (-1) 71 in the Senior Division at Sky Mountain GC. Six players successfully qualified as the cut came at +2. James Renick held off the rest of the Super Senior Field as he was the lone successful qualifier from that division as he shot a (+1) 73. Wrapping up the day was Dale Christensen (+4) 76 and Duane Francis (+6) 78 as they both punched their ticket into the Legends Division of the Senior State Amateur.

The last qualifier was held at Timpanogos GC on August 15, 2023. Craig Hill and Scott Clark were co-medalists in the Senior Division as they shot rounds of (E) 71. Eight players successfully qualified as the cut came at +3. Randy Hicken lead the way for the Super Seniors as he fired an impressive round of (-2) 69. Eight players are also moving on from this division and the cut came at +7. Lastly, Robert Robinson was able to claim the lone qualifying spot for the Legends Division.

The championship is set to be held at Alpine Country Club August 28th-30th. Players will play 18 holes of stroke play on day one followed by the top 32 players in the Senior Division, the top 16 in the Super Senior Division, and the top 8 players in the Legends Division competing in their respective match play brackets.

The field is strong and includes several past champions which should make for a very exciting week.
