Field Set for 30th Utah Senior State Amateur Championship
Competitors are ready to take on Alpine CC after the fourth and final qualifier wrapped up this afternoon at Timpanogos GC.
Qualifying started at Glendale GC on August 7th, 2023. Taking home medalist honors in the Senior Division was Tommy Johnson (-5) and Jeremy Edwards (-5) with impressive rounds of 67. The cut came at +1 (73) with 15 players moving on. Alan Hamilton and Steven Miles lead the way in the Super Senior Division as they both posted rounds of +2 (74) with the cut coming at +3 and a total of 4 players moving on. Finally, in the Legends Division Steven Smith and Kurt Bernhiesel carded rounds of +1 (73) with the cut being +2 and a total of 3 players qualifying.
At the Lakeside GC qualifier Thomas Kuehls fired a (-1) 71 to take medalist honors in the Senior Division with the cut at +3 and 11 players qualifying. In the Super Senior Division, Dana Nelson and Corey Ford shot (-2) 69 to lead the way. The cut came at +2 with six players advancing. Lastly, Stan Nakano carded a (+2) 74 and medalist honors in the Legends Division. Five players moved on and the cut came at +7.
Andrew Yeh was the only player in the field to card a round under par as he fired a (-1) 71 in the Senior Division at Sky Mountain GC. Six players successfully qualified as the cut came at +2. James Renick held off the rest of the Super Senior Field as he was the lone successful qualifier from that division as he shot a (+1) 73. Wrapping up the day was Dale Christensen (+4) 76 and Duane Francis (+6) 78 as they both punched their ticket into the Legends Division of the Senior State Amateur.
The last qualifier was held at Timpanogos GC on August 15, 2023. Craig Hill and Scott Clark were co-medalists in the Senior Division as they shot rounds of (E) 71. Eight players successfully qualified as the cut came at +3. Randy Hicken lead the way for the Super Seniors as he fired an impressive round of (-2) 69. Eight players are also moving on from this division and the cut came at +7. Lastly, Robert Robinson was able to claim the lone qualifying spot for the Legends Division.
The championship is set to be held at Alpine Country Club August 28th-30th. Players will play 18 holes of stroke play on day one followed by the top 32 players in the Senior Division, the top 16 in the Super Senior Division, and the top 8 players in the Legends Division competing in their respective match play brackets.
The field is strong and includes several past champions which should make for a very exciting week.

State Amateur Qualifying at SunRiver Golf Club
The penultimate qualifier for the Utah State Amateur was held at SunRiver Golf Club on Tuesday, June 13th. Conditions were great and the field came ready to play. Zach Felts shined the brightest as he put together an incredible round of -8 (63). The cut held at even par today with 13 spots and 2 alternate spots available at this qualifier. At the end of the day there was a 7 for 1 playoff at even par for the last qualifying spot and the two alternate spots.

State Amateur Qualifying at Davis Park
The 8th qualifier for the Utah State Amateur was held at Davis Park Golf Course on Thursday, June 8th. 84 players competed in great conditions for the majority of the day until a lightening delay put everything on hold in the afternoon. The field performed well as Josh Howe took home medalist honors with an impressive -5 (66). The cut held at even par today with 12 spots and 2 alternate spots available at this qualifier. There was a playoff at +1 with 6 players playing for the two alternate spots.

State Amateur Qualifying at TalonsCove Golf Club
We have officially reached the halfway point in State Amateur Qualifying season. The fifth qualifier of the year took place at TalonsCove Golf Club on Thursday, June 1st. Of the 84 competitors, five were able to shoot a round under par. Elijah Turner took home medalist honors with an impressive round of -6 (66). The field performed well and the cut continued to be at +1. There were 13 spots and 2 alternate spots available for this year’s State Amateur. There was an 8 for 7 playoff which then led to a 6 for 1 playoff for the last alternate spot.

State Amateur Qualifying Continues at Glenmoor Golf Club
The battle for a spot at The Country Club continues
The fourth qualifier of the year took place at Glenmoor Golf Club on Tuesday, May 30th. Of the 84 players, two golfers were able to overcome the windy day and complete rounds under par. Will Blanchard -2 (70) and Will Anderson -2 (70) took home co-medalist honors. The field performed well as the final cut came at +2. There were 12 spots and 2 alternate spots available for this year’s State Amateur. In the end, there was 5 for 2 playoff for the two alternate spots.

Former Ute Ties for Medalist at Bonneville State Am Qualifier

The third qualifier of the year took place at Bonneville Golf Course on Thursday, May 25th. With a strong field of 84 players, two golfers were able to better the rest. Former University of Utah golfer Oscar Maxfield -5 (67) and Thomas Young -5 (67) tied for medalist honors. Overall the field performed well as 9 of the 12 qualifiers shot a round under par. There were 12 spots available and 2 alternates for this year’s State Amateur, there was 7 for 1 playoff at +1 (73).
