Tommy Johnson dominates Senior State Am Qualifier at The Oaks
Tommy Johnson -4 (68) finished as medalist for the Senior division and was one of only two players who finished under par at the Senior and Super Senior State Am Qualifier at The Oaks. Corey Carter -1 (71) finished as medalist for the Super Senior division and was the other player who finished under par. A windy morning and a blistering afternoon proved for difficult conditions as much of the field struggled to score low, especially on the back 9. Johnson attributed his familiarity with the course as the difference maker in his round.
“Playing here a lot, I know the angles so I put myself in a lot of positions to at least make par,” said Johnson, “I was able to avoid ever getting into any serious trouble and made a couple good putts. Staying safe and avoiding mistakes was the key out here today.”
The cut for the Senior division came at +6 (78) with 10 players qualifying and the cut for the Super Senior division came at +11 (83) with four players qualifying.
