USAFA, Colo. — For the third time in his collegiate career Jake Vincent is a tournament champion for the Thunderbirds, as he claimed the individual title at the 2019 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Eisenhower Golf Course.

The tournament went down to a playoff between Vincent and both Jack Castiglia and Coby Welch from Northern Colorado. Vincent was able to make par on both No. 10 and No. 18 to come away with the win.

With his third title, Vincent becomes the all-time leader in SUU men’s golf DI history with three individual victories.

“Jake is playing some really good golf right now, and that’s more than evident when you look at his results from the end of last season to now,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “He’s really put the work in to make himself better and he’s primed to have a big senior season for us.”

For the tournament, Vincent shot a seven-under 209 (68, 66, 75) to lead the way in Colorado.

All of Vincent’s career wins have come as an upperclassman, as he claimed the individual title at both the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational and the 2019 Big Sky Conference Championships last season as a junior, and now this one as a senior.

Ali Hameed finished second for SUU with a 223 (73, 73, 77), which put him tied for 52nd on the leaderboard. Hayden Plewe ended play with a 229 (76, 79, 74) to finish tied for 79th. Both Ryker Smith (75, 77, 83) and Austin Jaramillo (78, 77, 80) finished with a 235.

The Thunderbirds will be back on the course on September 23 as they’ll compete at the Derek Dolenc Invitational.
