BYU’s Soifua and Kennedy Roll to Women’s Four-Ball Victory

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With rounds of 63 (-9) and 67 (-5), BYU sophomore Naomi Soifua and BYU junior Anna Kennedy earned 1st place honors at the Utah Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Rose Park Golf Course.

“It’s always great to win and we did a good job overall,”  said Soifua.  “We were able to strategize and we kept playing our own game.”

They comfortably won as the runner’s up from Idaho State, Tyler Erickson and Tya Seth, weren’t able to stay close to the leaders as they finished -4 (67) (73) for the tournament.

“Naomi and I were talking on the 18th tee box of wanting to finish on a high note,” said Kennedy.  “We felt like we could’ve been a little lower…but it felt good to see a birdie drop on the last hole.”

Despite them feeling they could’ve went lower on the scorecard, they each were the only players in the tournament that tallied double digit birdies.  Kennedy scored 10 birdies while Soifua led the field with 13.

Flight 2 winners in Gross were Joanne Kim and Sandy Beveridge of Bonneville Golf Club.  They shot +3 with rounds of 71 and 76 for the tournament.

Flight 3 champion honors in Gross went to Brenda Paris and Pamela Jones, shooting rounds of 78 and 86 (+20).

The Net victors were Claire Whisenant of Youth on Course and Kate Taylor of Old Mill Golf Club with rounds of 61 and 66 (-17).
