Lila Galea’i – 4A Medalist

By Jesse Dodson

Expectations for high school sophomores can be directionless at times, but for Lehi’s Lila Galea’i, it’s to put in the work and win.

Lila notched her second Medalist victory of her high school career at the 4A High School State Championship at East Bay Golf Course in Provo, Utah. With rounds of (-6) 70-68, she cruised to nine-stroke win.

“It felt good knowing that I put in the time and effort to get to that point,” Lila said. “It felt good to win, it finally showed me that the time and effort I put in paid off; I was happy.”

Lila is working towards earning a spot on the Brigham Young University Women’s Golf team. With a challenging, yet achievable goal such as that, Lila plans to play a full schedule of local and national tournaments this summer to prepare for two more seasons of high school golf and then to compete on a collegiate level.

“This will probably be my first year of playing in a lot of tournaments,” she said. “I’ll be busy.

“I love the challenges that each course I play bring,” She said about why she loves the game. “I try to focus on what I can do better with every shot that I take. If I make a mistake I try to learn from it and move on. I just love being on the course.”
