Utah Valley finishes eighth in 17-team field at Bill Cullum Invite

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.—The Utah Valley men's golf team finished eighth in the 17-team field at the Bill Cullum Invitational after carding a three-round score of 18-over-par 882 (297-298-287) at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
 
The Wolverines shot a final-round score of 1-under-par 287 on Tuesday to finish eighth ahead of nine other teams, including Gonzaga (+19), Cal Poly (+22), UC Irvine (+25), Idaho (+25), San Diego (+29), Hawaii (+32), Air Force (+35), Weber State (+36), Southern Utah (+54). Boise State won the tournament with a three-round score of 21-under-par 843.
 
“We finally put four scores together today,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “(Jake) Bryson stepped up and delivered when we needed it. I'm very proud of how our guys competed.”
 
Jake Bryson led the Wolverines with a three-round score of 1-under-par 215 (74-71-70) to finish in a tie for 13th in the 100-player field. The sophomore carded a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday after recording three birdies and 14 pars.
 
Gabe Lysen finished in a tie for 41st after recording a three-round 5-over-par 221 (72-77-72). Lysen carded six birdies to shoot an even par 72 in Tuesday's final round. Jake Godfrey tied for 45th with a three-round score of 6-over-par 222 (77-72-73) after finishing the tournament with a final-round score of 1-over-par 73.
 
Tanner Johnson shot a three-round 13-over-par 229 (74-83-72) to finish in a tie for 72nd. Aaron Yeates rounded out the scoring at 23-over-par 239 (78-78-83).
 
Boise State's Brian Humphreys won individual medalist honors with a score of 11-under-par 205 (72-67-66).
 
Utah Valley will now wrap up fall play at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, Oct. 28-30, at the Princeville Makai Golf Club in Princeville, Hawaii. The spring season will begin on Feb. 11 at the SUU Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George.
