Ali Hameed Becomes Third T-Bird This Season To Earn Men’s Golfer of the Week Honors
By Bryson Lester, Director of Strategic Communication at Southern Utah University
OGDEN, Utah — For the fifth time this season a member of the Thunderbird men’s golf team has earned Men’s Golfer of the Week status from the Big Sky Conference, as sophomore Ali Hameed was designated with the title today (April 11, 2018).
Both Fidel Concepcion and Jake Vincent earned the designation twice this season, with Hameed impressing this week at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
Hameed led the charge at Whirlwind Golf Club, carding a 70 on Tuesday, bringing his three-round total to 213 (71, 72, 70). That score put him in a tie for 17th on the leaderboard.
“This was a good week for Ali to build some confidence before we head to the Big Sky Championship,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “I’m happy that our guys have been able to pull in the number of honors they have this season, it really speaks the success they’ve had on the golf course.”
The Thunderbird men’s golf team will now turn their attention to the Big Sky Conference Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club. That event will run from April 17-19 in Boulder City, Nevada.
