120th Utah State Amateur to be contested at Oakridge Country Club June 11-16, 2018

The Utah Golf Association announces a move to the month of June for the world’s oldest continuously held golf championship.

Salt Lake City, Utah –Utah Golf Association Executive Director Bill Walker announced today that the 120th Utah State Amateur Championship will be held at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah, June 11-16, 2018. The move to June allows two of Utah’s premier golf events, the Utah State Amateur and the Web.Com Tour’s Utah Championship, to be held at the same venue.

“We are thrilled to have Oakridge Country Club host the 120th Utah State Amateur Championship,” said Walker. “The club had previously contracted with the UGA to hold the 2018 State Amateur before receiving word from the Utah Sports Commission that it would become the site of the 2018 Utah Championship. The golf course at Oakridge will be in terrific condition in June, and we look forward to another exciting qualifying season to fill the field.”

The UGA has 11 regional qualifying tournaments on next year’s schedule to determine the State Amateur field.

UGA Director of Rules and Competitions Jacob Miller said, “Oakridge Country Club is one of Utah’s top tracks, and we are tremendously excited to be hosting the state’s largest golf championship at a club with a tradition of hosting premier golf events. With only a few weeks between the Utah State Amateur and the Web.Com Tour’s Utah Championship events, it will be very interesting to see how scores differ between the two talented, yet very different fields.”

Davis Park Golf Course, located in nearby Fruit Heights, will be used as the second site of the 36-hole Stroke Play qualifying for 288 players to determine the final Match Play field of 64 players. The Stroke Play qualifying field will feature nearly 60 previously exempt players while 228 players will come from the regional qualifier tournaments.

“Oakridge Country Club is proud to host the Utah State Amateur in 2018,” said UGA Board Member and Oakridge Country Club General Manager Mark Jensen. “It will be a great opportunity for Utah’s top amateurs to play the home course of the Utah Championship, which brings the eyes of the professional golf world to our prestigious club nestled in the heart of Davis County, Utah.”  The Chair of the UGA Championships and Competitions Committee, Brian Hulse, echoed Jensen’s comments saying, “The UGA is proud to contest the 120th Utah State Amateur at Oakridge Country Club, which is a fantastic venue that will challenge the players and result in a memorable championship that will surely produce another impressive Utah State Amateur champion.”

Established in 1956, Oakridge Country Club’s course, originally designed by William F. Bell, has completed recent renovations by Kevin Atkinson. The changes added and improved the course’s streams and lakes, providing not only aesthetics, but also new challenges to all levels of play. With these improvements, players both amateur and professional will find a significant challenge. Oakridge Country Club is a well-known gem of Utah golf.
