UVU’s Bursey and Elftman-Hanson named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Division I Scholars

NORMAN, Okla.—The Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday that Utah Valley University golfers Blair Bursey and Ariel Elftman-Hanson have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Division I Scholars.
To be eligible for the honor, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
“This is a great accomplishment,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “They set an example of how to get things done in the classroom as well as on the golf course.”
Bursey (3.36, communications) played in 12 tournaments this past year. He recorded five top-15 finishes on the year and registered a 72.65 scoring average. He tied for sixth at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate with a three-round score of even-par 213 (69-75-69). He also finished tied for 10th at the OGIO Utah Invitational with a two-round score of 3-over-par 145 (75-70). He will be a senior for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Elftman-Hanson (3.59, accounting) had an impressive junior season, competing in 12 tournaments with a pair of top-15 performances. The senior-to-be tied for fifth at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational with a two-round score of 5-under-par 139 (71-68). He also tied for 13th at the WAC Championship with a three-round score of 8-over-par 221 (74-75-72). Elftman-Hanson finished the year with a scoring average of 74.35.
