OGDEN, Utah – Three members of the SUU men’s golf team were honored by the Big Sky Conference today, including junior Fidel Concepcion being named All-Big Sky First Team following a stellar regular season of competition for the Thunderbirds.

During the course of the season Concepcion was named Big Sky Men’s Golfer of the Week four different times. Concepcion is currently in a tie for 43rd in the entire country when it comes to average score, sitting right at a 71 per round through 28 rounds played.

“Fidel is very deserving of this recognition,” SUU head coach Richard Church said. “He’s been a constant competitor this season and has been the driving force for this golf team for the majority of the year.”

As a freshman, the Sydney, Australia, native was a member of the All-Big Sky Second Team, he was also named to the First Team at the end of his sophomore year.

Freshman Jake Vincent was honored with Third Team status following his first year of competition as a Thunderbird. Vincent was the second finisher for the Thunderbirds in a lot of the competition behind Concepcion, and currently sits with an average score of 74.07 in 28 rounds of play. His best finish of the season came in SUU’s home event, where he tied for 13th at the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invite.

Fellow freshman Ali Hameed was also recognized by the Big Sky with Honorable Mention status. Hameed also had a very strong freshman season for SUU, with an average score of 75.43 in the 28 rounds he played. His best finish of the season was a tie for 18th at the OGIO Utah Invitational.

“This is a nice accomplishment for all three of the guys,” Church said. “We’re excited to see what they’re able to do at the tournament this weekend.”

The next event on the calendar for the men’s golf team will be the 2017 Big Sky Conference Championships in Boulder City, Nevada. That event is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 28th.
