UVU Posts 10th-Place Finish at Lady Thunderbird Invite

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Sophomores Ana Raga and Carly Dehlin tied for 19th and 22nd places, respectively, en route to leading the Utah Valley University women's golf team to a 10th-place finish at Southern Utah's Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Friday at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George.
As a team, the Wolverines finished in 10th place out of 12 teams with two-round total of 46-over 622. UVU recorded scores of 310 and 312 on the way to posting the 622 at the two-day event.
Raga and Dehlin led the way for the Wolverines by carding respective tallies of 7-over 151 and 8-over 152. Raga put up individual scores of 74 and 77 en route to tying for 19th on the individual leaderboard, while Dehlin posted a 75 and 77 to tie for 22nd.
South Dakota State won the event at 12-under-par. The Jackrabbits posted a pair of 282s to finish with a two-round total of 564. Gonzaga placed second with a 1-over 577 (292-285), while the host SUU T-Birds took third at 20-over (299-297—596).
After carding an impressive 11-under-par 61 during the tournament's final round on Friday, Gonzaga's Bianca Pagdanganan took home individual medalist honors at 14-under-par (130).
Behind Raga and Dehlin's solid outings, individual Kaylee Shimizu too played well for UVU by tying for 44th place at 15-over-par. Shimizu put up scores of 77 and 82 to take 44th.
Freshmen Justine Lauer (84-77—161) and Isabella Lesa (77-87—164) were next for the Wolverines by tying for 48th and 54th places, respectively, while seniors Monica Yeates (86-80—166) and Kimberly Nyhus (87-81—168) tied for 58th and 62nd.
The busy spring schedule continues for UVU, as the Wolverines will now travel to Northern California for the Sacramento State Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested at the Sierra View Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21.
