Russ Godfrey - March Member of the Month

By: Tanner Clegg, UGA P.J. Boatwright Intern

Congratulations to Russ Godfrey, our first Member of the Month contest winner! Russ took home a great prize package with the following golf story:

“I played in my one and only pro-am during the Senior PGA Tour Pro Am at Park Meadows. We were group 10A so that means a HUGE gallery watching us tee off. I was the youngest in the group (26) so I was told to hit first. I could barely put the ball on the tee, I was so nervous! I set up, had the perfect swing and sure I completely missed the ball and the wind of my driver caused the ball to dribble 10 feet into the hazard! I looked back and the pro we played with had that oh great, another hack I'm going to have to play with look on his face! WORST FEELING EVER!!!

Here are a few question and answers to help you get to know Russ a little better:

What’s your home course?   Davis Park GC

What do you do for a living?  Law Enforcement

What’s your favorite golf course? In state: Sand Hallow GC, Out of State: The Links at Spanish Bay

What’s your funniest golf memory? My daughter in the picture was getting ready to play in the junior’s league at Valley View and she was only one of two girls with all these boys.  The first day she thought she put the brake on her push cart, but didn’t and it took off down hole #1 at Valley View with her closely running behind it.  Both cart with clubs and daughter took a mean spill and it looked like a garage sale of golf equipment with a sprawled out 13-year-old girl in front of all these boys.  I love telling that story, but my daughter might never speak to me again telling it to all the Utah golfers.

What are your hobbies?  Spending time with my family. Coaching soccer and high school golf.

What is your favorite quote and who said it?  Since I coach girls and have three girls of my own, my favorite quote is from Mia Hamm: “Somewhere behind the athlete you’ve become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back…. play for her.”

Why are you a UGA member? I enjoy playing in the men’s league at Davis with my co-workers and friends. It’s a nice break from the realities and stresses of society (except when you play bad and that causes more stress.)

Make sure to check back the 1st of April for our next Member of the Month contest
