By: Jason Erickson, UVU Athletics
DENVER, Colo.—Utah Valley's Ariel Elftman-Hanson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of Feb. 22 through Feb. 28. The honor marks the second-straight WAC Golfer of the Week honor for UVU as JT Timmons earned the award last week.
“I couldn't be happier for Ariel,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “He has worked extremely hard this off-season and is seeing major results. He is starting to scratch the surface of his potential.”
Elftman-Hanson, a junior from Wailuku, Hawai'i (H.P. Baldwin HS), tied for 21st at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. He carded a 3-under-par 213 en-route to the top-25 finish, shooting a 1-under-par 71 in each of his three rounds. As a team, the Wolverines took ninth among 16 teams.
Other men's nominees: NM State's Isaac Merry tied for 18th at the National Invitation Tournament, finishing with a 2-under-par 214 … UT Rio Grande Valley's Luca Portelli had two rounds under par at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Houston.
