Play Concludes at Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Competition wrapped up at the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, and the Thunderbird men’s golf team finished the event in sixth place after shooting a six-over 582 (284, 298) total.
Utah Valley University won the event hosted by Southern Utah, shooting a 16-under 560 (278, 282) as a team.
SUU’s Fidel Concepcion finished in seventh overall, shooting a four-under 140. He shot the low round for the Thunderbirds on both days of the event.
Freshman Jake Vincent had a big day on Monday, shooting a SUU career low of 69, and followed it up on Tuesday with a 74 to end up in a tie for 13th overall. In total he shot 143 over the two days.
Fellow freshman Ali Hameed was third for the Thunderbirds at the event, finishing in a tie for 26th. Hameed shot a 74 on the first day and improved to a 73 on the second to finish with a combined score of 147.
Christian Karren rounded out the scoring for the Thunderbirds, shooting a 152 over the two days of the event. Brodey Payzant was fifth for SUU’s team, shooting a 164.
Playing as an individual SUU’s Humza Hameed had a solid day, shooting a 73 to bring his two-day total to 151 to end up in a tie for 42nd.
SUU’s second individual, Bradley Collet, shot a 154 over the two days to finish in a tie for 57th.
Matt Naumec from Boston College ended up on top of the leaderboard, shooting a 67 on Monday and a 69 on Tuesday to end up with an eight-under 136. Kymer Li from Long Beach State finished second, just one shot behind with a 137.
The Thunderbirds will have a quick turnaround as they will compete at the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, on Friday.
