Park City, Utah – The Utah Men's Golf team closed out the OGIO Utah Invitational with a second-place finish on Tuesday, carding a two-round score of 12-over at The Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club.

The tournament was limited to just a 36-hole event after Monday's first round was suspended and eventually cancelled due to winter weather in the area.

Utah concluded first-round action earlier this morning, carding a combined 15-over (299), but came back strong in the final round with a score of 3-under (281). Utah's score of 281 was a tournament-low and it helped the Utes move up four spots after sitting in sixth-place following the first round.

With the second-place finish, Utah has posted at least a top-three finish in three straight events for the first time since at least 1990 (records of tournament finihses were not kept until the 1991-92 season). Prior to 1990, Utah's best streak of top-three finishes was two straight, with the last consecutive top-three finish coming back in 2009-10.

Lamar won the event, just three strokes ahead of the Utes, at 9-over (289-288=577). Meanwhile, Utah finished ahead of Weber State (+13), Boise State (+16) and Southern Utah (+17). Utah's “B” team finished in 10th place overall with a score of 63-over (314-317=631).

Freshman Mitchell Schow tied for seventh overall, with a team-best 2-over (74-70=144), while junior Kyler Dunkle finished in a tie for 10th place with a score of 3-over (74-71=145). Senior Gentry Hicks tied for 13th at 4-over (77-69=146), freshman Jordan Costello finished in a tie for 18th at 6-over (74-74=148) and freshman Peyton Hastings rounded out Utah's “A” team finishing in a tie for 29th with a score of 9-over (80-71=151).

Junior Clayton Keck led Utah's “B” team finishing in a tie for 33rd overall with a score of 10-over (76-76=152). Sophomore Nathan Wunderli (+17) tied for 50th, freshman Christian James (+18) tied for 53rd, sophomoreDrew Grundberg (+21) finished 56th and senior Justin Mortensen (+22) rounded out Utah's scoring in a tie for 57th.

Lamar's Zander Gous and Boise State's Brian Humphrey's finished in a tie for first-place as both players finished with scores of 3-under par.

Utah will have a few weeks off before returning to action at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18. The event, hosted by Cal State Northridge, will take place at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
