Bursey leads UVU with 10th place finish at OGIO Utah Invite

PARK CITY—Blair Bursey recorded his second top-10 finish of the season to lead the Utah Valley University men's golf team to an eighth place finish at the 2016 OGIO Utah Invitational at The Jeremy Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
 
UVU finished in eighth place with a two-round score of 35-over-par 603 (303-300). The Wolverines concluded the first round of the tournament on Tuesday morning after Monday's opening round was suspended due to weather. UVU then wrapped up the event with a second and final round on Tuesday afternoon.

“Whenever a tournament is shortened you can't afford an mistakes,” Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran said. “We unfortunately made tons of mistakes. The conditions were some of the worst I've seen for a college event. We weren't as mentally tough as we needed to be.”
 
Bursey led the Wolverines with a two-round score of 3-over-par 145 (75-70). After shooting a 4-over-par 75 in round one, Bursey carded a 1-under-par 70 to finish in a tie for 10th on the individual leaderboard. The junior registered five birdies and 10 pars during his final round. Bursey has now finished in the top-10 in seven of his last 10 tournaments dating to last season.
 
JT Timmons finished in a tie for 16th after recording a two-round score of 5-over-par 147 (73-74). The senior carded a 2-over-par 73 in round one before shooting a 3-over-par 74 in the final round.
 
Dalton Jackson, playing as an individual, finished in 40th at 13-over-par 155 (78-77). Ariel Elftman-Hanson tied for the 41st spot at 14-over-par 156 (81-75). Freshman Gabe Lysen tied for 45th at 15-over-par 157 (76-81). Cedric Laverdure shot a two-round 18-over-par 160 (79-81) to finish in a tie for 53rd. Payton Stott tied for the 53rd spot as an individual, carding an 18-over-par 160 (82-78).
 
Utah Valley will continue fall play at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Oct. 17-18, at New Mexico State Golf Course. The Wolverines will then wrap up its fall schedule at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, at the Princeville Makai Golf Club in Manoa, Hawaii.
