The 2016 UGA championship season wrapped up at Talisker Club’s Tuhaye Golf Course in Kamas, Utah, with the Utah Four-Ball Championship. The first round on Monday, September 12th proved to be quite the test for Championship Division and Senior Division competitors across the board as the wind picked up in the morning and got worse as the day wore on. Despite blustery conditions and a challenging Mark O’Meara-designed golf course, three four-ball teams managed to card scores under par to start out the two-day event strong.

Team David Jennings and Preston Alder gained a two-shot lead over Team Reed Nielsen/Casey Shaw and Team Marc Hardy/Jonathan Hardy after Round 1 by being the only Championship Division team to post a red number, one-under-par 71. The duo made three birdies on the front nine to shoot two-under 34 on the front and birdied the par-4 No. 12 to gain one back and post 37 on their final nine.

Team Guy Child/Kurt Jamison and Team Kirk Siddens/Brett Sampson of the Senior Division were the other two teams to post scores under par during Monday’s opening round. Both teams carded one-under-par 71 to place themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard.

Luckily, conditions improved for the final round; the wind was nothing but a refreshing breeze on Tuesday, allowing the leaders the opportunity to post low numbers for a chance at the trophy.

Jennings and Alder were bogey free on the front nine with an eagle on No. 3 and made back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6 to post 32 on the front. Despite a bogey on the par-3 No. 17, Team Jennings/Alder birdied 10 and 15 to card five-under 67 on the day. They secured their Championship Division victory by three shots over runner-up Team Kurt Owen and Kirk Nielson with a two-day total of 138 (-6).

In the Senior Division, Team Guy Child and Kurt Jamison posted a final-round score of four-under 68 with birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 6, 8, and 9 to card five-under 31 on the front. The back nine proved to be somewhat of a struggle for the duo compared to the front nine. Nevertheless, even with a double on No. 14 and a bogey on 13, Child and Jamison posted one-over 37 on the back to clinch the win by one shot over Round 1 co-leaders Kirk Siddens and Brett Sampson.
