Utah Valley’s Bursey Ties for Sixth at Itani Quality Homes Collegiate

PULLMAN, Wash.—The Utah Valley University men's golf team wrapped up play at the 2016 Itani Quality Homes Collegiate on Tuesday, shooting a final round score of 9-over-par 293 to place 10th with a three-round score of 33-over-par 885 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Blair Bursey led the Wolverines with a sixth place finish.
UVU placed 10th with a three-round total of 33-over-par 885 (289-303-293), finishing ahead of Idaho (894), UT Rio Grande Valley (894), Western Washington (897) and San Jose State (904). Tournament host Washington State won the team title with a 10-under-par 842 (283-279-280).
“Had we finished stronger it would have been a different story,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “We threw away almost 10 shots on the last few holes. Blair Bursey played like a champ.”
Bursey registered his sixth top-10 finish in his last eight collegiate tournaments after finishing in a tie for sixth with a three-round score of even par 213 (69-75-69). The junior carded a 2-under-par 69 in Tuesday's final round and finished just three shots behind Washington State's Nick Mandell, who finished in first at 3-under-par 210 (67-70-73) to earn medalist honors.
Ariel Elftman-Hanson finished in a tie for 36th with a three-round score of 7-over-par 220 (73-75-72). Elftman-Hanson carded his best round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round, shooting a 1-over-par 72.
JT Timmons shot a three-round 9-over-par 222 (71-79-72) to place 47th. Cedric Laverdure finished in a tie for 76th with a three-round score of 22-over-par 235 (81-74-80), followed by Dalton Jackson in 78th at 23-over-par 236 (76-79-81). Corey Carter played the tournament as an individual and finished in a tied for 79th at 24-over-par 237 (79-82-76).
Utah Valley continues fall play Sept. 26-27 as the team travels to compete in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club in Boulder, Colorado.
