118th Utah State Am Kicks off with Perfect Weather

By Megan Terry

The biggest week in Utah amateur golf has arrived. After eleven qualifying opportunities and 833 qualifying rounds, the 118th Utah State Amateur Championship finally kicked off today at Alpine Country Club and Fox Hollow Golf Course. Two hundred eighty-eight of Utah golf’s most talented played their first of two 18-hole stroke play qualifying rounds. Of the 288, only 64 will advance to match play on Wednesday.

“Perfect weather led to players having an opportunity to put up great numbers,” stated UGA Rules and Competitions Director Jacob Miller. “I am more than pleased with how the week started and look forward to seeing what these guys can do.”

Carson Lundell currently leads at seven-under-par 65 after a hot round at Fox Hollow. Lundell started the fiercely competitive week with a bogey-free round, catapulting him to the top of the leaderboard. Making seven birdies on the day allowed him to card three-under 33 on the front and four-under 32 on the back to place him in a comfortable position before Round 2.

Live scoring will be available throughout the week, and links are available on UGA social media platforms.
