BYU Men’s Golf Assistant Coach and PGA Professional Jake Ellison topped the impressively talented 77th Provo Open at East Bay Golf Course by shooting a three-day total of 16-under-par 200.
Ellison captured the championship title by carding an untouchable Round 1 nine-under-par 63. His 63 seems to be what really did the trick, but Ellison held his ground the remainder of the tournament and shot a Round 2 67 and a Round 3 70 to seal the deal.
Low Amateur Patrick Fishburn not only topped the amateur field by five strokes with his three-day total of 201 (-15), he also beat every professional other than Champion Jake Ellison.
Fishburn posted three scores under 70. His consistency helped him start out strong by carding a Round 1 69. Day 2 was the round that gave Patrick the chance to take the win after he shot an eight-under-par 64, helping him overtake Round 1 amateur leader Brandon Kida. Fishburn’s final round of 68 was enough to help him pull ahead of Kida and earn the title of 77th Provo Open Low Amateur.
