Christiansen Claims Medalist Title at Wasatch Mountain State Am Qualifying
By Megan Terry
Despite rumors of wind and scattered thunderstorms, the Wasatch Mountain State Amateur Qualifying could not have been better. Excellent weather and impeccable course conditions set a smooth scene for the day right off the bat. Twenty-four spots and two alternate spots were up for grabs amongst the full, 84-player field, turning up the level of intensity and forcing all competitors to bring their “A” game.
Brett Christiansen brought that and more after carding a two-under-par 70 in the final group to top the leaderboard and not only qualify for his first Utah State Amateur Championship, but also earn medalist honors.
“A beautiful day on a beautiful course playing the game I love. There’s nothing better,” said Christiansen.
He made four birdies and a bogey on the front nine of Wasatch Mountain’s Lake Course to shoot 33 (-3) and two birdies and three bogeys to card a 37 (+1) on the back.
“I started the round with a birdie on No. 1, and everything was downhill from there. I’ve tried qualifying twice before now and fell short by one shot both times. I’ll be 50 in two months, so this is the perfect birthday present.”
The fifth of 11 qualifying opportunities will take place on Wednesday, June 15th at TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs. To stay updated on what is happening at TalonsCove the day of the event, CLICK HERE.
