Throssell Shoots 70 to Top Field at Eagle Mountain State Am Qualifying
By Megan Terry
The second qualifying opportunity for the 2016 season took place at Eagle Mountain Golf Course in Brigham City. Windy conditions in the morning kept the players on their toes, but the sun came out and the wind faded to a nice breeze once everyone was out and rolling. With 23 spots and two alternates available to the 76-player field, pleasant playing conditions were absolutely necessary.
Throssell easily secured his qualifying spot after topping the field by carding a one-under-par 70, 34 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back.
“I played pretty solid. I hit a few bad shots, but I never really got into any trouble,” stated Throssell. “The greens were in great condition, so I had a lot of confidence rolling it with the putter.”
One shot behind Throssell was a five-way tie for second place at even-par 71 among Devery Stewart, Jaece Stokes, Braydon Swapp, Tanner Jenson, and Ryder Velasquez.
The third Utah State Amateur Qualifying will take place Thursday, June 2nd at SunRiver Golf Club in St. George. Thirteen spots and two alternates will advance to the 118th Utah State Amateur at Alpine Country Club and Fox Hollow Golf Course July 11-16.
