Stroke Play Qualifying of Utah Senior Match Play Championship Sets Competitive Scene for the Week
The stroke play qualifying round of the 2016 Utah Senior Match Play Championship at Sleepy Ridge Golf Course set a competitive scene for the rest of the week. Forty-seven of Utah’s best senior golfers are competing in three divisions for the championship title. The Senior Championship Division includes players from 50 to 64, and the Super Senior Division includes those 65 and older. There is also a Net Division that includes seniors all ages 50 and over. Day 1 included an 18-hole qualifying round to determine seeds for match play. Day 2 includes the Round of 32 matches.
Dan Hatch and Kurt Jamison are stroke play medalists in the Championship Division after shooting a one-under-par 71. Hatch carded four total birdies, two of which were on sixteen and seventeen. He chose a good day to finish strong. Jamison made zero bogeys and two birdies on the back nine. His impressive consistency is what earned him co-medalist status.
Val Calhoon also finished at -1 in the Super Senior Division, three shots ahead of Ruben Escobedo. In the Net Division, Tracy Smith shot a Round 1 four-over-par 76 to earn Net Division medalist honors.
