SUU Women finish fourth at Bobcat Invite, UVU places seventh

SUU Women’s Golf finished fourth place on Tuesday at the Bobcat Spring Invitational at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona. The team started the tournament strong with a Round 1 team score of 301, placing them in third after the first day. The T-birds were consistent during Round 2 and posted a team total of 302. Their Round 3 finish earned them a total of 311 and a three-day total of 914.

SUU’s Taylor Viquelia lead the Thunderbirds individually with a seventh-place finish by carding seven over par (71-71-81—223). Nicole Thomas finished just two shots behind Viquelia to claim eighth place with a nine-over-par 225 (76-75-74). Miranda Reyes (76-79-80) and Nicole Jones (81-76-78) finished T31 at +19, and Rynae Baca placed T43 at +21 (78-80-79—237).

With the seventh-place finish, the Wolverines ended the tournament ahead of the host Montana State Bobcats, Montana, South Dakota, Louisiana-Monroe, British Columbia, CSU Bakersfield, Creighton, North Dakota, MSU Billings and Idaho State.
 
After opening the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 during the opening round and an 8-over 80 during round two, Heu capped the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 during Tuesday's final round to finish in a tie for ninth place with her 10-over-par 226. The senior carded a total of six birdies at the event en route to the top-10 finish. Heu's opening round 71 marked the lowest score of her collegiate career and her 10-over 226 total is the sixth best three-round score in school history.

Behind Heu's ninth-place finish, redshirt freshmen Ana Raga and Carly Dehlin were next for UVU by each tying for 31st place at 19-over-par (235). Raga carded scores of 77, 81 and 77 en route to her 31st place finish, while Dehlin posted a 79, 80 and a 76 at the tournament. Senior Cassandra Lesa posted a final round 77 to finish the event tied for 48th place with a three-round total of 239, while junior Kimberly Nyhus finished in 66th place with a 244 after carding a 78 on Tuesday.
