Lee Wins Dixie Red Hills With Big Second Day Turnaround
By Joe Watts
C.J. Lee had a triple bogey and three double bogeys in the first round of the Dixie Red Hills Amateur and was in 15th place. Yes, the reason we are writing about it is because he shot a second round 62 and edged Ben Jorgensen by one shot to win the title. The 62 sounds better than it was since par at Dixie Red Hills is 68, but it was a remarkable 13 stroke turnaround in the two days for Lee nonetheless. He was seven over the first day and six under the second day and won the tournament at one over par.
Another unusual aspect of the tournament was that no one in the field shot even par in the first round, and only two players shot under par in the second round, Lee and Rhett Rasmussen, and only two others parred it the second day, Ben Jorgensen and Preston Alder.
Lee is a sophomore on the BYU golf team, and his hot round is well timed as BYU hosts the Cougar Classic only ten days away at Riverside Country Club.
