Park Meadows Begins Season with New GM
Shawn Goben, Park Meadows CC General Manager
By Joe Watts
Shawn Goben, most recently an executive at Pacific Links International in Hawaii, has been hired as the general manager of Park Meadows Country Club in Park City. He has been on the job for several months and is impressed with the club and the Park City area and pleased to take on the responsibility as club manager.
At Pacific Links, he was responsible for the management of four first-rate golf courses in Hawaii, including Kapolei, Makaha Valley, Olomana, and Royal Hawaiian. In Arizona, he managed Desert Mountain for five years.
Steve Roney, president of the club, said, “We are really happy with our selection of Shawn Goben to be our General Manager. “
“We hired a national search firm with expertise in this area, and after studying our needs, they reviewed a couple of hundred resumes and then gave us a short list of 12 qualified candidates for our position. We narrowed that list and interviewed the others, and we were unanimous in selecting Shawn Goben for the job. He is a perfect fit for us,” he said.
Prior to his affiliation with Pacific Links in Hawaii, Shawn was the director of golf and head professional at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is comprised of six Jack Nicklaus golf courses and other amenities. He was Desert Mountain for 13 seasons before joining Pacific Links.
His initial professional experience came in Eugene, Oregon, as the head professional at Laurelwood Golf Course and as the golf coach at South Eugene High School.
One of his first responsibilities at Park Meadows will be to find a replacement for popular head pro Bobby Trunzo, who recently changed careers by joining up with a web-based golf management group named Golf Genius Software.
“One of the first things I learned when coming to Park Meadows is that we have one of the nation’s top superintendents in John Haynes. Last year he received the Utah Section PGA Superintendent of the Year Award for private country clubs. He is responsible for our club having such a wonderful reputation for its conditioning,” Goben said.
“I’m looking forward to my first golf season at Park Meadows and becoming better acquainted with Utah,” Goben said.
