UVU’s Bursey Medals at Bandon Dunes Invitational
Blair Bursey, just a sophomore at Utah Valley University from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada, won medalist honors at the Bandon Dunes Championoship and carried his Wolverines to a seventh place finish in the 12-team field that included three PAC-12 teams. Bursey was one of only three players to finish under par on the difficult Bandon Dunes track.
Clemson won the team title and UVU finished seventh, but Bursey’s individual victory should be a big boost to the confidence of all the Wolverines and points the team toward higher expectations. Other members of the traveling team to Bandon Dunes were J.T. Timmons, 78-72-78-228; Dalton Jackson, 81-76-72-229; Ariel Elfton-Hanson, 78-73-81-232; and Perry Wright, 78-76-80-234.
Bursey had a strong freshman season and completed that first year with a top ten finish at the Cougar Classic.
“I'm so proud of Blair,” Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran said, “This is a huge win. He's been so close several times and broke through today. His putting was clutch down the stretch, birdieing two of his last five holes.”
The Wovlerines are getting to play some great golf courses. Bandon Dunes is one of the spectacular settings in all of golf and next up the Wolverines will play at Chambers Bay, past site of the U.S. Open.
