Utah Golf Finishes in 12th Place at National Invitational Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Utah men’s golf team finished in 12th-place at the National Invitational Tournament after carding their best round of the event at 2-under par (286). Utah ended the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 12-over par (292-298-286=876).

Junior Gentry Hicks carded 1-under par (71) in the final round to finish in a tie for 27th-place. Hicks finished the event with a three-day score of 1-over par (71-75-71=217) to lead the Utes.

Senior Brandon Kida recorded a final round score of 2-under par (70) to finish in a tie for 37th-place at 4-over par (71-79-70=220). SeniorJonathon Thomas shot a 1-over par (73) in the final round on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 48th-place at 6-over par (76-73-73=222).

Rounding out team play for Utah, seniors Steven Croft and Jose Pelayo finished in a tie for 53rd-place at 7-over par. Croft (75-76-72=223) carded a final round even par (72), while Pelayo (75-74-74=223) ended the final round shooting 2-over par (74).

Competing as an individual in the tournament, freshman Trent Hill finished in a tie for 69th-place with a three-day score of 15-over par (80-73-78=231).

Santa Clara took home the team title with a score of 18-under par (278-287-281=846). New Mexico followed behind coming in second place at 12-under par (287-285-280=852). UTEP (-11) and Wyoming (-11) finished in a tie for third place, while Nevada (-8) rounded out the top-5 teams.

Colorado State (-5), Arizona (E), Iowa State (+3), UC Davis (+4), New Mexico State (+7), and Stephen F. Austin (+8) finished ahead of the Utes, while Notre Dame (+13) and San Jose State (+20) followed.

Utah will be back in action next at the Oregon State Invitational in Corvallis, Ore. The two-day event will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 21-22.
