Dane Nelson Earns Medalist Honors at Coyote Classic

Dane Nelson, a sophomore at Dixie State College, won the first collegiate tournament of his career Tuesday at the Coyote Classic at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernadino, California.

He opened with a 66 and closed with 71-70-207 to win by two shots. Dixie finished fourth in the team standings. Sonoma State won the team title, finishing 13 shots ahead of Dixie.

Dixie freshman Andrew Chu started with a disappointing 84, but then posted back-to-back 70s to move up to 22nd on the individual scoreboard with a 224 total.

Compton Pikari, a freshman from New Zealand, shot 227 and finished 32nd.

“Dane played great and handled himself well and made some clutch putts coming in,” DSU Head Coach Brad Sutterfield said.
