Gwen Adams, Longtime Course Rating Captain, Passes Away

Gwen Adams, the captain of the UGA Women’s Course Rating Team for more than 25 years, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden illness on Christmas Day. Her funeral will be held Wednesday in Orem. The obituary is printed below.

Joe Watts, Executive Director of the UGA during most of those course rating years, said, “Gwen’s service to the UGA was above and beyond and was crucial to the UGA. She was responsible for putting together other rating volunteers and rating every course in Utah for the women’s tees.”

“In the process she rated and played every golf course in Utah, something that very few people have done,” Watts said. “She took the assignment seriously and responsibly and the work got done far ahead of schedule,” he added.

Judy Allem, a past president of the UGA, said, “Her passing is sudden and unexpected and she will be missed by her many friends in Utah golf.”

Gwen had recently turned over her course rating duties to other rating teams, but her original work laid the foundation for women’s course ratings in Utah.

The UGA extends its deepest sympathies to Gwen’s family and friends.
