2016 BYU women’s golf recruit announced

PROVO, Utah — BYU women's golf has announced that Aiko Leong of Honolulu, Hawai'i has signed a national letter of intent to join the team beginning the 2016-2017 season.

“We are very excited about Aiko joining us next fall,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “She will be a great fit and very competitive for us moving forward.”

Leong will come to BYU as an experienced and accomplished player.  According to Golfweek, she is currently ranked 49th in her 2016 graduating class.  This year alone, Leong qualified for the 2015 Junior World Championship, was the 2015 Antigua High School Invitational winner, won the Hawaii sectional qualifier for the 2015 US Womens Amateur and took seventh overall at the 2015 Big I Championship.

The Hawai'i native represented her home state in the 2012, 2013 and 2015 Asian Pacific Junior Championship and in the 2014 and 2015 Girls' Junior Americas Cup, where she placed in the top-5 in the 2015 event. Leong also competed in the 2014 Michelle Wie Tournament of Champions taking first place overall. In her three previous state championship events, Leong has finished consistently in the top 6, and in 2012 she was named the age 13-14 Hawai'i Junior Golf Player of the Year.
