Utah Finishes in Ninth at Bridgestone Collegiate

Greensboro, N.C.- The Utah men’s golf team finished ninth at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate after shooting a final-round 14-over par (302) at Grandover Resort on Monday. Utah finished the 54-hole tournament at 14-over par (287-289-302=878).

Senior Jose Pelayo carded a final-round score 3-over par (75) to finish in a tie for 28th-place. Pelayo finished the event at a 3-over par (72-72-75=219) to lead the Utes.

Along with Pelayo, three other Utes placed among the top-50 golfers with senior Jonathon Thomas recording a final-round 2-over par (74) to finish in a tie for 31st-place at 4-over par (74-72-74=220), senior Brandon Kida carding a final-round 3-over par (75) to finish in a tie for 35th-place at 6-over par (70-77-75=222), and junior Gentry Hicks finishing in a tie for 47th-place after shooting a final-round 6-over (78) to finish at 8-over par (71-75-78=226) at the event.

Freshman Trent Hill rounded out Utah’s team total, finishing in a tie for 51st-place after carding a 9-over par (81) final round and finishing the tournament at 9-over par (74-70-81=225).

Purdue captured the team title with a two-day score of 30-under par (277-266-291=834). North Carolina followed closely behind only coming up 2 strokes short of first-place totaling a two-day score of 28-under par (275-272-289=836). Northwestern (-4) and North Carolina Greensboro (-4) finished in a tie for third-place and Georgia State (+2) rounded out the top five teams in the field.

VCU (+5), Virginia Tech (+9), and Kansas State (+11) finished just ahead of the Utes, while Davidson College (+32), Mercer (+35), Iowa State (+35), Chattanooga (+37), and South Alabama (+45) followed.

Playing as an individual, senior Steven Croft finished in a tie for 35th-place with a three-round score of 6-over par (72-76-74=222).

Utah golf will tee off the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 29-30, 2016, in Tucson, Ariz.
