UVU WGolf: Wolverines close Aggie Invite with 13th-place finish

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Utah Valley University women's golf team closed play at the NM State Aggie Invitational on Wednesday by posting a 13th-place finish after carding a three-round total of 940. The Wolverines posted scores of 308, 306 and 326 en route to recording the 13th-place finish.
 
Senior Kalea Heu led the way for UVU, as she tied for 46th place at 15-over-par (231). Heu posted scores of 75, 77 and 79 at the three-day tournament, which included tallying a team-best six birdies during the competition.
 
Fellow senior Cassandra Lesa was next for the Wolverines as she placed 62nd after carding a three-round total of 236 (+20). Lesa recorded scores of 78, 73 and 85. Her second-round 1-over-par 73 marked the lowest score of the tournament for UVU.
 
Freshmen Carly Dehlin and Katie Perkins, as well as junior Kimberly Nyhus rounded out the Wolverines' field of five at the tournament as they finished with respective totals of 240, 242 and 242. Dehlin carded a pair of 78s and an 84, while Perkins put up a 78, an 81 and an 83 and Nyhus finished with a 77, an 82 and an 83. Dehlin finished the tournament in 65th, while Perkins and Nyhus tied for 69th.
 
Utah Valley redshirt freshman Ana Raga too took part at the Aggie Invite this week as an individual. Raga finished her tournament run tied for 62nd place with a three-round total of 236. After carding a 79 and an 80 during the tournament's first two rounds, Raga responded with a 5-over-par 77 on Wednesday.
 
BYU won the Aggie Invitational at 5-under-par (282-287-290—859), while the host New Mexico State Aggies placed second at even par (288-285-291—864). NM State's Viviana Macias was the tournament's individual medalist after carding a 6-under 210 (67-72-71).
 
The 2015 Aggie Invitational was contested at the NM State Golf Course in Las Cruces.
 
The Wolverines will once again hit the road next week to compete at their fifth tournament of the fall season. UVU will head Lakewood, Washington, on Oct. 12-13 to take part at Seattle U's Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational at the Tacoma Country Club.
