UVU WGolf: Heu leading way for UVU after 18 holes at Aggie Invite
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Utah Valley University senior Kalea Heu is leading the way for the Wolverine women's golf team after 18 holes of play at the NM State Aggie Invitational on Monday. The Wolverine senior is currently tied for 26th place after carding a 3-over-par 75 at the NM State Golf Course on Monday.
Heu, who recorded UVU's first-ever hole-in-one at the WSU Cougar Cup two week's ago, put up three birdies and nine pars on Monday en route to carding her 75.
Junior Kimberly Nyhus is next for Utah Valley, as she's currently tied for 43rd place after shooting a 5-over 77 during the opening round of play at the three-day, 54-hole tournament. Senior Cassandra Lesa and redshirt freshman Carly Dehlin are right behind Nyhus, as they are each tied for 52nd place after carding identical 78s (+6) on Monday.
As a team, the Wolverines find themselves in 12th place out of 14 squads with a 20-over-par 308. Despite being in 12th place after Monday's opening round, UVU sits just five shots out of ninth and 10 shots out of sixth place.
BYU leads the tournament at six-under-par (282), while the host Aggies are currently in second at even par (288) and UC Irvine is in third (295). NM State's Viviana Macias is the individual leader after carding a 5-under 67 on Monday.
Freshmen Ana Raga and Katie Perkins are also competing at this week's tournament for the Wolverines. Raga, who is playing the event as an individual, will enter Tuesday in 60th place at 7-over (79), while Perkins finds herself in 72nd place after recording an 83 (+11) on Monday.
The Aggie Invitational will continue on Tuesday with another single round of competition beginning at 8:30 a.m. MT. The tournament will then conclude on Wednesday with the event's third and final round.
