Brimley Loses First Round Match at USGA Mid-Am

Utah’s Ryan Brimley earned the 60th seed at the USGA Men’s Mid-Am Championship, but lost his first round match, 2 and 1, to Michael McCoy of Des Moines, Iowa.

In the beginning it was a see-saw match with McCoy winning the second hole and Brimley winning the third. Then McCoy won the fourth hole and Brimley won the sixth.  McCoy won the seventh and Brimley squared it at the turn by winning the ninth.

McCoy won the tenth hole and took his first two-up lead on the 12th. He really took hold of the match on the 13th which put him three-up. Brimley won the 14th to cut it to two, but they played the next holes even until Brimley ran out of holes after the 17th.

Robbie Fillmore and Darrin Overson also qualified for the tournament but failed to make the cut.
