USGA Focus Shifts to Mid-Am Championships

Last week the USGA held its Senior Championship for both men and women and this week it is holding Mid-Am Championships for both men and women. The men’s tournament is at John’s Island Golf Club at Vero Beach, Florida and the women’s event is being played at Squire Creek CC at Choudrant, Louisiana.

Last week Pat Murphy made match play in the Men’s Senior Am and won his first three matches before losing in the quarterfinals. Sue Nyhus advanced to match play in the Women’s tournament, but lost in the first round.

Utah’s Julie McMullin shot an opening round 81 in the Women’s Mid-Am, and while that score doesn’t sound like a winner, she is in 44th place and if she holds that position she will advance to match play.

On the men’s side of the Mid-Am events Ryan Brimley shot three over par and is tied for 66th place, just a shot higher than he needs to be to advance to match play. Robbie Fillmore shot nine over par and is probably too far back to catch up.
