Wildcats Finish Seventh at Ram Masters Invite
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Weber State men's golf team wrapped up the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Fort Collins Country Club, finishing seventh in the 15-team field with a three-round total of 879.
The Wildcats shot a stellar score of 282 in Monday's opening round and sat just five shots off the lead in third place after 18 holes, but a second round 309 saw the team stumble down to seventh in the afternoon. WSU rebounded with a final-round 288 on Tuesday, but was unable to make a move back up the leaderboard.
The Wildcats were led by Devon Purser, who shot rounds of 68, 76 and 73 for a seven-over-par 217 to tie for 14th overall. Luke Crapo joined Purser in the top-25 with rounds of 72, 75 and 72 for a 219 to tie for 25th.
Tournament host-Colorado State won the tournament wire-to-wire, shooting 277-283-279 for a one-under-par total of 839. Kansas finished second at 849, while Fresno State finished third at 862.
Kansas's Ben Welle claimed medalist honors, shooting a final-round 72 to hold off a pair of Colorado State players after back-to-back 67's in the opening round saw him grab a three-shot lead over CSU's Kyler Dunkle, who set a tournament record with an opening-round 63. Dunkle finished with rounds of 74 and 73 to tie for fourth. CSU's Dominic Kieffer and Max Oelfke shot 68 and 69 in the final round, respectively, to make a run at Welle, but both finished two shots back to tie for second.
Colton Dallimore made a final round run with a team-best 71 to tie for 46th at 224 after shooting 76-77 on Monday.Jaece Stokes shot 73-81-72 to tie for 52nd at 226, while Alex Herzog shot 69-84-76 to tie for 66th at 229.
