UVU WGolf: Wolverines place 10th at WSU Cougar Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Utah Valley University women's golf team concluded the WSU Cougar Cup with a 10th-place finish after carding a final-round score of 314 on Tuesday. The Wolverines finished the tournament with a three-round total of 933 (+69), as they also recorded scores of 319 and 300 on Monday.
Seniors Kalea Heu (80-74-78), who recorded UVU's first-ever hole-in-one on Monday, and Cassandra Lesa (77-71-84) led the way for the Wolverines by each tying for 41st place at 16-over-par (232). Heu carded a 6-over 78 during Tuesday's final round while Lesa put up a 12-over 84. The two combined to record 12 birdies and pair of eagles at the 54-hole tournament that was contested at Washington State University's Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman.
Junior Kimberly Nyhus was next for Utah Valley as she finished in 47th place with a 20-over 235. After carding rounds of 82 and 78 on Monday, Nyhus recorded a team-best 4-over-par 76, which included a pair of birdies, during Tuesday's final round.
Freshmen Carly Dehlin and Pernille Echberg rounded out UVU's field of five at the tournament, as they placed 48th and 64th, respectively. Dehlin finished with a 21-over 237 (80-77-80), while Echberg tallied a 27-over 243 (82-81-80).
The host Washington State Cougars won the tournament at 2-over-par (866), while Idaho placed second (880) and Fresno State came in third (882). WSU's Cherokee Kim also took home individual medalist honors after winning the Cup with a 5-under 211 (69-69-73).
The Wolverines will now be off until Oct. 5-7 when they'll travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to take part at the NM State Aggie Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be contested at the NM State Golf Course on the campus of New Mexico State University.
